The Great Hamilton Poem Hunt 2010

No escape (or need thereof)

No-one ever really settled here, not really

They-ve been passing through and stuck

That thick and swampy, sucking silt flows like luke-warm lava over the feet

Staining the lower regions of piupiu or Sunday trousers

Of Saris or dishdasha. If this happens do NOT struggle

Or you will sink without a trace

Look around you, see the trees that grow like weeds here.

Things grow well on this river-ribboned plain,

Take root and soar up. Kumara, cows children, dreams

This place has always been a strangely fertile garden
